I spotted these artists in one of the busiest streets in Melbourne- Swanston St. last December 7, 2008. Obviously, they were there to showcase their talent, and at the same time accepting some monetary gifts from the passers-by who appreciated their work.
I have some doubts with the authenticity of the other, though. How about you?

hmm... same here buddy, the authenticity of any artistry can be seen through his eyes... just a thought though
marami nagsasabi na hidni daw true artists yung nangongopya lang ng masterpieces ng iba. but still, it can't be denied that they have talent. :)
kumusta dito sa manukan? Sa palagay ko ang totoong artist ay kayang isabuhay ang kanilang craft kasi duon papasok ang attitude kaya unique bawat artist.
"Art is anything you do" but "Knowing art is when to stop".
These are the phrases I adhere to. It takes skill and talent to reproduce a "master" in a different medium. Even if it's only a copy, the act itself is already art. The level of craftsmanship depends on how detailed the copy was produced from the original.
we got of lot of them here naman, di nga lang kasing gorgeous nila. sosi kasi diyan sa OZ =) i think too, the other artist is just owning/innovating somebody else's art; whatever, he still an artist in his own. =)
Looking at your second photo. Amazing works if he did that himself. :)
what a wonderful street scene!
i like anything with creativity.
